Adult Protective Services shall make available to the adult the appropriate and least restrictive protective services, directly or through the purchase of services from other agencies and professionals, and shall take necessary action to safeguard and enhance the welfare of the adult.
The desired outcome is to assure that persons in need of protection are living in a safe and stable environment, maximizing the adult’s right to make decisions in the least intrusive and restrictive manner.
Services provided through Adult Protective Services include:
- Referral of actual or suspected criminal activity to the appropriate law enforcement agency
- Protection
- Social protection
- Financial management through a referral to Social Security
- Conservatorship/Guardianship through Probate Court
- Involuntary commitment through Woodlands Behavioral Health Care
- Counseling
- Home related medical examinations and evaluations
- Home Help Services
- Information and referrals to community services/agencies
- Assistance with completion of a Medicaid application
- Assistance with referrals for emergency shelter/relocation (State Emergency Relief/Emergency Services)
- Intervention regarding delinquent property taxes
